We believe that veterinary medicine is a vocational profession. One which should never have been handed to corporate groups for ownership. In 1999, it was decided that veterinary clinics did not have to be owned by Vets anymore, and in the following years, large corporate groups bought over 60% of our UK practices.
As an independent clinic, Green Door Vets will proudly be different. We have full control over our pricing and care options and will remain true to our traditional values.
We will deliver compassionate, friendly, competent care and treat every animal as if they were our own.
We are passionate about creating a clinic that reflects our vocational profession and hope to see the tide slowly turning back towards independently run veterinary clinics which serve the community, clients and the vets and nurses who work so hard.
A commitment to sustainability, including responsible use of products (anthelmintic and antimicrobial) guided by the British Veterinary Association’s ‘Green Team Vet’ framework.
We are comitted to reducing our impact on the environment in several small ways such as using recyclable clinical waste bins, washable scrub hats, reusable surgical drapes and gowns. Our surgical instruments will be packaged in reusable tins rather than plastic wrapping, and any plastic wrapping we do use will recyclable.
We will consider the environment in our use of antibiotics too. It is so important that we only use antibiotics when necessary to protect their usefulness for human medicine. We no longer use ‘prophylactic’ antibiotics for surgical procedures. For instance, if your pet has a routine surgery such as a spay or castrate, they will not be sent home with antibiotics.
Equally, it is vital not to over-use anthelmintics (flea and worming) so that we do not develop resistance. We will carefully select your products so that they have as little impact as possible on the planet.
Green Door Vets are proud to be part of the British Bee Veterinary association! Bees are SO important for our survival. Over 80% of the foods we eat require Bees for pollination but sadly their habitat is being destroyed through intensive farming or building work. We will have lots of Bee friendly plants around the clinic to provide a home for some Froxfield Bees!
